FLIESEN & PLATTEN - Readers’ vote of the products of the year 2017
Agrob Buchtal succeeds in defending title

Since 2011, FLIESEN & PLATTEN, the German trade journal with the highest circulation, has called upon its readers to vote for the products of the year at regular intervals. In the category of tiles, the brand Agrob Buchtal ranked in second place at that time with the series XENO, behind the series HOMING of the sister brand Jasba, which thus was the first winner at all.

Agrob Buchtal then participated again in the vote for the product of the year 2014 and straightaway took first place with the series TWIN. After a pause in 2015 without participation, the company succeeded in winning the vote again with the series QUARZIT as product of the year 2016.

This impressive success story now has been seamlessly continued by the successful “title defence“. At the vote of the products of the year 2017, the Agrob Buchtal series SAVONA introduced in the same year was the winner by a significant margin.

New Belgrade Plaza Complex, Coventry
Earthy and airy

Rachel Haugh, one of the name-givers of SimpsonHaugh and Partners Group LLP (Manchester/London), has noted that there are two vital requirements for the design of a high-rise. One is to ensure it is well-connected on street level, and the other that it adds something to the skyline. This might be true in general, but in the case of the 20-storey complex “Belgrade Plaza” in Coventry, it is equally important what happens in between the bottom and the top.

Brunnenstraße Waterworks, Homburg/Saar
Functional buildings can also be aesthetically pleasing ...

(Drinking) water is the source of all life and therefore the most important “food” of all, in the truest sense of the word. It is rightly subject to strict control and used several times a day by each and every one of us. Per capita consumption in German households is more than 120 litres a day, whereby Germany is surely one of the most privileged countries in the world in terms of water quality and supply. A basic prerequisite for this is a corresponding infrastructure based on the individual waterworks: these are the quiet heroes of everyday life, providing 24/7 service. It is in the nature of things that they primarily involve functional purpose-built buildings. The fact that this can be combined with demands on design is confirmed by a waterworks facility in Homburg/Saar in the appropriately named Brunnenstraße (Well Street), originally built in the 1950s. Due to growing demand, an extension became necessary whose stringent design and unpretentious reservation are thoroughly convincing.

Newcomer competition for interior designers and architects
Tile Award 2017 of Agrob Buchtal: pure ceramic creativity

The Tile Award is aimed at newcomers in the field of interior design and architecture up to the age of 38 years and is a creativity competition initiated by the brand Agrob Buchtal. The main intention is to explore the creative potential of ceramic tiles experimentally. The response at the premiere in 2010 was so positive that the competition was continued in 2012 and 2014 and now has been organized already for the fourth time in 2017.

Conveying the brand DNA
Interior design for high-tech natural cosmetics

The immemorial knowledge of the vital force of the olive tree characterizes the brand identity of Oliveda, a manufacturer of high-tech natural cosmetics. In the Flagship Store at Düsseldorf, the intention is to make this brand value perceivable. The company and the interior designer decided on natural materials, a colour concept in which the black olive as main ingredient of the products plays an important part as well as on discreet associations with a laboratory environment. Ceramic tiles full of character from the classic tunnel kiln underline this concept, because they embody originality, authenticity and materiality.
